2021 Event Update

2021 Event Update

You will notice that there have been a number of changes to our plans. As the vaccination programme appears to be taking effect and the Government have announced the ‘Route out of Lockdown’, we now have dates we can work to. One effect of the announcement is that many groups and museums have been revising their programmes. Consequently, many events have moved dates to later in the year or been postponed to next year. NTH is no exception and set out below is our revised programme.

Unfortunately, we have had to postpone our proposed June events at Brixworth Country Park and Abington Park Museum but we hope to bring these to you in 2022. All events prior to July have been cancelled. As in previous years, there are likely to be additions to our programme as the year progresses, some at short notice. Many of these will be to rallies and running days with Aldridge, Wythall and Oxford Museums being likely candidates. If you are interested in joining us on this type of outing please register your interest with Malcolm by text or email so that you can be advised of short notice arrangements. It is advisable to let Malcolm know of any outings on which you intend to join us so that you can be advised of any last-minute changes to plans. There is a possibility of some events being organised by our friends at Leicester Transport Heritage Trust, who we will be keen to support, including their popular event at Quorn in conjunction with the Great Central Railway. Also under research is a Members visit to the Shuttleworth Collection.

We hope that we will be able to hold our Heritage Open Days and Market Square events but these will depend on circumstances beyond our control. Heritage Open Days have, in the past, been supported by Northampton Borough Council but the reorganisation of the Northamptonshire Councils and finances may affect this. There are proposals to redevelop the Market Square and this could affect the availability of the area we use. We are considering other locations should this become a problem.

All being well, we will be able to start some limited work on the buses from May as we are keen to get them back on the road for your enjoyment. We will be starting with 154 and then 267 with Mavis (our ‘new’ Volvo) having to take a bit of a backseat for the moment. 654 has recently had some maintenance works carried out and has a new MoT test certificate so is raring to go and likely to be used on many of the longer trips.

Please remember that, whilst we hope that things will be returning to something like ‘normal’, there is always the possibility that there may be restrictions imposed from time to time and NTH will naturally abide by any directives and safeguarding requirements that are issued.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
